Brantôme
Brantôme is an attractive town situated on an ‘island’surrounded by the river Dronne. It is sometimes known as the Venice of the Dordogne
Ribérac
Also set in the Dronne valley, Ribérac is at its best on a Friday, market day for reputedly the biggest market in Périgord.
Périgueux
The ‘capital’ of the Dordogne contains an interesting medieval and renaissance centre. There are attractive streets lined with medieval houses concentrated in the region around the cathedral.
St Emilion
Saint-Emilion is in the heart of a reknowned wine growing area. The vineyard and the landscape are listed by the UNESCO as World Heritage.
Aubeterre sur Dronne
Aubeterre has charming narrow streets and ancient buildings including a church carved into a rock face. Built in the shape of an amphitheatre this former stronghold is now classified as one of France’s prettiest villages.
Bergerac
The highlight of a trip to Bergerac is the old town, the area immediately north of the river, signposted ‘vieille ville’. This part of the town has some lovely streets and squares to explore, and a variety of shops as well as many restaurants.
